You and Tom Waits. The jazz singers.

Where's that song about ''Heart of Saturday Night?" That's him, right?

Vielen Dank, Billy. Das ist ja Spitze! What a lyric.

Funny thing is when I was a little girl and living in New Orleans, I would stand in front of the mirror and try and imitate Satchmo day in and day out. If I had kept going in that direction, I would have the perfect voice to sing with Waits.

Billy, who do you think influenced
whom?

This post also made me think of Down by Law (Jarmusch, Waits and Benigni,) which I haven't thought about in a long time. I'd like to see it again. I loved it when I first saw it. Ironically, I was living in Germany at the time, and to tell you the truth, I can't remember if it was dubbed or I saw it with subtitles.

The horrible truth, girl, is so many of us have known so long that this was going on, and we haven't been able to stop it.

I have to go with Waits. He guarantees an erection. And an election. And that's how it works. The illusion of power to the powerless. Step right up.

All the noir you want right here.

Loved the Carlin, GFTB. This, still my fave Waits.

Funny thing is Waits started out as a Springsteen wannabee, only later he found his own true (or fake, hell if I know) voice.

GftB, "If looks could kill, you dead"

Decidere, Remember this one?
"My mama used to say that America's the big melting pot. You bring it to a boil and all the scum rises to the top."
Kind of timely, eh?

Not timely, eternal verité.
